ESPN Snowboarding names new editor

Rich Goodwin

Melissa shreds No Shadows, Jackson Hole backcountry.

The ESPN Action Sports crew would like to extend a warm welcome to our new snowboard editor, Melissa Larsen. A recent New York transplant, Larsen brings with her nearly 15 years of editorial experience in snowboard media, as well as a terrain knowledge of Jackson Hole rivaled only by Travis Rice.

Raised in Crested Butte, Colo. and Los Angeles, Larsen worked as Associate Editor for TransWorld SNOWboarding from 1997 to 1999 before jumping to a Senior Editor role at In 2002, she did her first stint in New York, while earning her Master's degree in Media Studies at the New School and writing "Sex in the Ski Town" for Snowboarder Magazine, the first action-sports column penned by a female. After a requisite globetrotting tour, she became Editor of the all-girls action sports pub SG Magazine before moving back to Jackson to live the freelance dream.

This series of events would have been enough to burn out the most gonzo of journalists, but lucky for us, Larsen still really likes writing about -- and riding on -- snowboards. Terje and Barrett are still her favorite snowboarders, TB5 changed her life, Travis is her hero and she'll claim Jackson for life, which you can do, too, after you've lived there for 15 years.

Welcome aboard, Melissa. Mountain Creek awaits you.
