Toutant tops Slope Elims, White quals

TIGNES, France -- Sebastien Toutant qualified first in Men's Snowboard Slopestyle Elims Thursday at Winter X Games Tignes 2012. The WX Europe 2011 and WX Aspen 2012 Slopestyle silver medalist put down the most solid line of the day, scoring 93.33 on his first run, which kept him in the lead throughout the elimination round.

Most riders struggled putting a run together on a course that didn't get a full blast of morning sun until the contest was well under way. Ståle Sandbech and Shaun White were the only other snowboarders besides Toutant who stayed on their feet through the first round, and went into the second round in second and third place, respectively.

It was rumored that White, who has not made a Winter X Slopestyle Final since 2009, when he won gold, had not ridden slope at all this season. It was confirmed, however, that he spent some time training in the Northstar park before coming to France. The practice seemed to pay off, as he held his third-place spot until Eric Willet dropped in for his final run, landed every trick flawlessly, and bumped White into fourth.

Winter X Aspen double gold medalist Mark McMorris and Winter X Europe 2011 Slopestyle gold medalist Chas Guldemond are qualified for Friday's finals behind White, followed by England's pride, Jamie Nicholls, and Burton European Open winner Alexsander Østreng.

These top eight men advance to Friday's finals, live in Tignes at 10:30 a.m. CET. Watch the broadcast on ESPN3 at 5:30 a.m. ET or ESPN2 at 12 p.m. ET. Results »
