Ty Evans joins Brain Farm
Award-winning skateboard filmmaker Ty Evans has teamed up with production powerhouse Brain Farm Digital Cinema, according to a statement released this week.
A Southern California native, Evans has been making skateboarding films since he purchased his first camera at a thrift store more than 20 years ago. Best known for his work with the Girl Skateboards ("Pretty Sweet") and Lakai Footwear ("Fully Flared"), Evans also works as a director for hire. To his credit, he's even directed a commercial for Chevrolet that featured professional skateboarder Rob Dyrdek making a car kickflip, which aired during the 2012 Super Bowl.
Evans, a long time friend of Brain Farm's CEO Curtis Morgan, told XGames.com about his new venture, "We've been talking about me doing this for a long time. It hasn't been something that I just figured out right now, I always knew that when I finished "Pretty Sweet" that's what I wanted to do." Evans continued, "I'm going to Brain Farm to make my next skate film. Each one of my skate films I want to make bigger and better than the last one and Brain Farm has amazing tools and resources for me to be able to do that."
Brain Farm Digital Cinema, based out of Jackson, Wyo., was founded by filmmakers who revolutionized snowboarding videos with their use of aerial photography, pushing the limits of what is possible with groundbreaking films like "That's It, That's All" and "The Art of Flight." From concept through post-production, Brain Farm utilizes revolutionary technology and has developed equipment specifically to capture action.
Of moving into the realm of skateboard films and their latest addition to their creative team, Morgan said, "We love the sport of skate and it's such an important part of board sports culture that Brain Farm is so passionate about. Ty and I have been friends for quite awhile now and I could not have dreamed up a better situation than this. Ty is such a creative artist and he is hands down the best filmmaker in skate."
Evans' primary focus, and reason for enlisting with Brain Farm, is to make the production company's first skate film and to make his farthest reaching to date. Evans explains, "I think it makes sense for me to do a skateboard film that can reach the masses and a production company like Brain Farm is a perfect fit because they come from skateboarding and snowboarding. Curt, the owner of Brain Farm, has been skateboarding since he was a kid and I think we're on the same page."
Having a long history of working within one specific camp, Girl/Chocolate Skateboards, and churning out brand-specific videos, Evans is excited to embrace the entirety of skateboarding, saying, "I think it's great to show the different spectrum of different skateboarders. I think company videos are cool, because you're focusing on that one company, but back in the day when I worked at Transworld [Skateboarding Magazine], where I was doing these films that spanned across the whole genre of skateboarding and had different kinds of guys in there, almost going back to that, every type of skateboarding whether it be street, or tranny, or pools, or all-terrain -- just the best guys. I think it's a great opportunity for guys who've been doing company skate videos for 15-plus-years to step outside of that and be part of a project that's going to be bigger than anything they've been in before and get out to more people that have never seen skateboard films before."
Brain Farm will be launching its #brainfarmskate website in the next couple months and more hints of how this collaboration will manifest will be dropped online. In addition, Evans has been brought on board to continue building Brain Farm's impressive commercial roster, which includes international brands like Toyota, National Geographic Channel, Red Bull and many others.
