Scoring at Bocas Del Toro
Bocas Del Toro
Panama's Bocas Del Toro region, located along the country's Caribbean coast, is a tropical paradise, compete with empty beaches, gin-clear water, and an abundance of perfect waves. For traveling surfers Keoni Jones (pictured), Kaoli Kohakuloa, and Jake Davis, it was the ideal place to go fall off the map for a few days.

Jake Davis
Admitting that Silverback's was one of the gnarliest waves he's ever seen, it took awhile for Davis to feel comfortable. But once he did it was on.

Kaoli Kahokuloa
Putting his formative years at Backdoor and Pipeline to good use, Kahokuloa leans into a deep one.

Oli Camarena
One of the most talented surfers coming out of Panama today, Oli Camarena's quickly putting his native surf zone on the map. And with big punts like this, there's no missing him.

Turn It Up
Pump up the jam he will. The Bluffs switched on and ready to rock.

Kaoli Kahokuloa
The beachbreak known as Bluffs provided a fun respite from the scary tubes of Silverback's. The sandy, shorepound barrels were well received by the crew. Kahokuloa locked into some good ones.

When your highway's the channels and waterways of an archipelago "boat taxi" is the only way to get from one place to the other ... and it's fun.

Kaoli Kahokuloa
Like a scene out of the South Pacific or Indo, it's hard to imagine that a wave like Silverback's is a mere one-hour flight east of Panama City. Kahokuloa wasn't complaining.

Keoni Jones
Jones grew up in a surfing family on the North Shore of Oahu and is just now coming into his own. With a shaping room in the garage and Rocky Point right out the backdoor, we're going to be seeing a lot of good stuff from him in the years to come.

In the immortal words of Kenny Rogers, "You have to know when to hold them, know when to fold them, know when to walk away." Davis, gambling.

It certainly isn't Lowers, but by the end of the trip Davis had the line at Silverback's wired.

Big tubes or small ones, Jones is wired to spend as much time behind the curtain as possible.

Kaoli Kahokuloa
Not all the waves in the Bocas region are terrifying. In fact, most are quite fun and playful. Kahokuloa and friends found this left ramp to rotate off of.

It's a long way to the bottom if you want to rock 'n roll. Or something like that. Jones going down, down, down.

Growing up around San Clemente and its talented group of surfers, Davis was quick to take to the air when he found a T Street-like wedge.

Good luck ever figuring out how Jones got himself into the air. With a mixed up, crossed up beachbreak at his disposal, the creative Hawaiian was able to find the ramps and sections he was after, where most of us would be left scratching our heads.
