Chris Ward, surfer
Ward is constantly traveling and finding waves; you hardly ever see him idling: "I just like to relax and wrench on my car before heading to West Australia for a few weeks. I get to surf with my daughter, so that's cool."

Lindsey Engle, surfer
"Golf, yoga and teaching classes to groms about health is how I spend time when not surfing. It keeps me in shape, my mind healthy and ready to surf my next heat. Thankfully everything I teach and coach are all activities I love and all aid in my surfing once I get the opportunity to sneak a few waves into my schedule."

Gavin Beschen, surfer
"When I'm not surfing, I like to hang out with my daughter Marley, skate and play guitar and ukulele, work on my land or upkeep my house or go hiking with my dogs and keep looking for those waves so I can keep surfing! I also help the Mauli Ola Foundation share the love of surfing and spread awareness of the healing the ocean."

Rusty Long, surfer
"Riding bikes, yoga, running, playing tennis and playing Ping-Pong are all things I like to do that help me in some way or another. I like to garden and work with plants too; I have a bonsai garden at my apartment I am constantly maintaining. Reading books is another one that I really enjoy when I have the time to just cruise a bit."

Ricky Whitlock, surfer
Whitlock suffered a broken back while surfing Pipeline last year and was told he may never surf again: "I work with [my trainer] Paul 'cause he's one of the main reasons I was back in the water so quick after the injury."

Mary Osborne, surfer
"When I'm not in the water surfing, I'm always doing something active, whether it's paddling or running. I have two businesses that are a constant work in progress, so I continually work on those. My family is also based in Ventura [Calif.], so I spend a lot of time with them when I'm home."

John John Florence, surfer
Sometimes downtime isn't earned or chosen: It's forced. Good thing Florence -- who recently suffered an ankle injury that pushed him out of the Quiksilver Pro contest at Snapper Rocks -- has his passion for photography and filming to take his mind off the healing process. Still "Free To Roam," if only in his imagination for now.

Tanner Rozunko, surfer
Rozunko is very into his music. During the slow winter months at Handplant skate shop in Laguna Beach, Calif., he's got time to polish up his chords: "I just like keeping busy and working on new licks on my guitar, or working on my new motorcycle. Whenever I'm not surfing, I usually am skating or playing music, but I also like to ride and collect vintage motorcycles with my buddies."

Jennifer Smith, surfer
"When I'm not surfing, I like to cook epic healthy food, and I have a garden. I skateboard and ride bikes. I started shaping [surfboards] about a year ago and I'm pretty addicted to that. I play ukulele for fun and listen to records and drink a lot of tea. I guess I do a lot."

Tibs Parise, skateboarder
Parise gets tattooed by Conner Getlaff, another Gullwing rider, in between van tours at the Sector 9 team house in Encinitas, Calif. Skateboarding and tattoos have gone hand in hand since the birth of the urethane wheel: "There's a lot of downtime in traveling, so just hanging out and getting tattooed is a nice way to relax when not chasing girls."
