"World of X Games" announces K-Rob Flips Providence
ESPN2 will televise live "World of X Games: KRob Flips Providence," the Guinness World Record attempt for the longest ramp-to-ramp, no-handed backflip on a BMX bike on Saturday, Aug. 13 at 5:30 p.m. ET. The backflip -- from Kennedy Plaza in Providence, Rhode Island -- will also be part of the World of X Games series on Sunday, Aug. 14 at 4 p.m. ET on ABC.
Four-time X Games BMX gold medalist Kevin Robinson will come out of his 2013 retirement to attempt to break another BMX World Record in the city where X Games began in 1995. In this first World Record attempt of a no handed backflip on a BMX bike, Robinson will reach speeds of 50 miles per hour in his attempt to soar at least 100 feet. Set in the heart of downtown Providence, Kennedy Plaza will provide a festival area surrounding the jump with several local bands, exhibitors, beer garden and gymnastics, karate and BMX demos throughout the day. The event and festival are free to the public.
"I've wanted to break this record for many years. It's important to me to do it in my great home state of Rhode Island," said Robinson, "This is all about following the continued passion I have to be on my bike and to bring X back to where it started."
Robinson's world-record attempt will air as part of the World of X Games series, which features a variety of X Games and action sports athlete-focused content.
"World of X Games is excited to bring fans back to the roots of the X Games with the K Rob Flips Providence BMX World Record event on ESPN and ABC," said Tim Reed, X Games vice president, "After more than 20 years of events, X Games remains tied to the progression of action sports and Robinson's flip will be the next chapter."
