X Games Aspen athlete wish lists
All we want for Christmas is for X Games Aspen to get here faster. Is that what X Games athletes want, too? XGames.com asked a few of them what's on their holiday wish lists. Snowboarding's first Olympic Slopestyle gold medalist, Sage Kotsenburg, has only one thing on his list: a record player. Why? To better hear the analog stylings on D'Angelo's new album when the double LP vinyl pressing of "Black Messiah" drops in February, of course.
Seven-time X Games gold medalist Levi LaVallee will be competing in four snowmobile disciplines at X Games Aspen 2015. But before then, he'll be celebrating the holidays with his family in Minnesota. This is his holiday gift wish list: "I'd love to get a drone to fly around and have awesome GoPro shots."
LaVallee: Kid's snowmobile
Levi LaVallee's daughter, Liv, was born this past fall. She may be a touch young for her own snowmobile, but no matter. "I'd love to get a 120 that I could regift to my little girl, Liv, so she would have her own snowmobile," her proud dad says.
LaVallee: Light-up Alarm
Oversleeping isn't an option for a world-record-setting athlete like Levi LaVallee. "I'd like a light-up alarm clock to help me wake up in the mornings," he says.
LaVallee: Torque Wrench
Levi LaVallee's toolbox is missing one critical item: "I'd like a new torque wrench because I busted mine a few weeks ago."
In the summers, Levi LaVallee gets a bit of downtime to enjoy Minnesota, the Land of 10,000 Lakes. But there's one thing that would make lake life a lot more fun: "A Blob to launch me super-high and far off into the lake."
Fourteen-year-old Chloe Kim is coming up fast in the ever-evolving world of women's halfpipe snowboarding. Though "success" ranks high on her Christmas wish list, there is little doubt that this grom phenom will follow up her silver medal at X Games Aspen last January with another podium spot at X next month. What's on her list that might not be a guarantee? A puppy.
Kim: Candy and sweaters
We didn't get the specifics on the particular sweater or candy varietal Chloe Kim wants for Christmas, but we're thinking angora Hello Kitty (she did tell us last year that HK was her dream sponsor) and Sixlets, 'cause those were the jam when we were 14.
Chloe Kim is already starting to emulate halfpipe snowboarding style master Danny Davis by learning his trademark switch method. It makes sense that the Martin Guitar ambassador's off-snow style would have an influence on the upcoming generation, as well. Case in point, one of the items on Kim's wish list? A guitar.
Canadian Josh Dueck will be competing in the return of Mono Skier X at X Games Aspen 2015 in January. Dueck won gold in the event in 2011 and bronze in 2012. Dueck says he'd most like world peace for the holidays. But if that's not an option, here are some more tangible items on his wish list.
Josh Dueck travels all over Canada, the U.S. and beyond, and it'd be nice to document his journeys in writing. So he's asking for this Italian leather-bound journal with an antique map of the world engraved on the front.
Dueck: Cap-it Canopy
When driving around in the mountains in the winter, having a cap on your truck is critical for keeping your gear dry. Dueck wants a Cap-it 100XL Canopy "to allow for more inclusive adventures," he says.
Dueck: Nikon 1 V3
A compact camera that can capture fast-paced action in high-quality still images and video is a must for Dueck, who often documents his sit-ski adventures. Dueck was featured in the 2011 film "The Freedom Chair," about the ski accident that paralyzed him and his subsequent return to competitive skiing. "I'd like the Nikon 1 V3 to share the world I see with crystal clarity," he says.
