Hawk, Zurita compete in Gumball 3000
Gumball 3000 hits the road
Earlier this month, the Gumball 300 returned with a two-part journey that consisted of a European leg, followed by a finale that took competitors from Reno to Las Vegas, Navada, and of course, a few X Games competitors were along for the ride. Here, BMX Vert rider Coco Zurita poses with his Nissan GTR at the Reno airport just before the European Gumballers arrive.
Starting line in Reno
The U.S. leg of the Gumball 3000 started at the Reno Arch. The crowd was pretty tame until a few people started walking up to Coco Zurita's car to check out his bike on the roof. From there the entire crowd swarmed the street.
Tony Hawk and his crew took a lot of detours to hit some good skate spots along the way. Here, Corbin Harris blunts in the pocket at the legendary Buena Vista Pool on the way from San Francisco to Los Angeles.
On the road again
During the drive from San Francisco to Los Angeles, Coco Zurita linked up with the Another Brother crew and headed to Woodward West to film some bits for Betsafe.
It's not the fastest or most expensive car in the rally, but it was definitely one of the most opulent. Here is the all gold Rolls waiting on the grid in Los Angeles with a few hundred dollar bills getting blown off by the wind.
Here, Braven's McLaren exchanges nods with Coco Zurita and his GTR as another McLaren trails them.
The Alchemist winds down his set as Dead Mau5, sans mouse helmet, preps for his set at the finale of the Gumball 3000.The final party was a pretty wild event including the car parade, a vert demo with Tony Hawk and his crew, and performances by Dead Mau5, Bun B, The Alchemist and Eve.
Whip it good
Coco Zurita was hitting back to back to back to back tailwhips and flairs at height throughout the entire demo. As the only BMXer in the demo, he was definitely a crowd favorite.
Jesse Fritsch killed the vert demo with style wearing what might be the crowd's favorite socks.
Tommy Lee, founding member of Motley Crue, seemed to enjoy every minute of the U.S. leg of the Gumball, but was especially stoked during the demo. Here Tommy Lee gets a shot of Tony Hawk doing a classic invert. And then it was off to X Games for Hawk, Zurita and select other drivers on the Gumball 3000.
