Trey Wood wins Skatercross Skateboard Racing
Trey Wood takes the win
The first inaugural Skatercross Skateboard Racing event went down at the 10th annual Clash at Clairemont in San Diego, California, and in the end, Trey Wood took the win and claimed the top stake in $10,000 in cash prizes (he won $3500). What follows is a look back at the organized chaos that is Skatercross. Welcome to the next level of skateboarding.

Up and over
Before we get into the racing, let's take a step back and appreciate Clash at Clairemont for what it is: A collection of skateboarders coming together to support each other, and as evidenced by Alex Sorgente, trust each other. There was a height comp, but we can explore that later.

The highs and lows
Andy Macdonald (left) conceptualized Skatercross and made sure that everything was buttoned down, from banner placement to rider meetings, before competing in the event. He made it pretty far against Mike Owen, but ultimately did not make it to the final race.

Sliding to finish
Throughout the day, the finish line wasn't always the prettiest display of skateboarding, but everyone competing seemed more than excited to finish the course in knee slide style. Here, Tom Schaar (left) and Evan Doherty (right) keep it safe and clean?

Heightened
And then there was a height comp. Before we get into the finals, this is Greyson Fletcher, who arrived late because of traffic and proceeded to destroy the course through the finals.

Wood for the win
You can't cross the finish line without style. Trey Wood (left) knows this all too well.

And oh yeah
There was a height comp. After Trey Wood won the races, Tom Schaar came back to clear 11.5 feet on the second gap. The high air comp was definitely a new style of skateboarding to be introduced into competition format.
