Behind The Music at X Games Minneapolis
Behind the music
X Games Minneapolis 2017 is in the books, but we're still reeling from four straight days of live music that accompanied the best action sports fest on Earth. Beginning on opening night of X Games, X Games Music hosted a kickoff party at First Avenue in downtown Minneapolis, featuring the likes of deM atlaS, a rapper from nearby St. Paul. Of course, the kickoff party sold out, and deM atlaS gained a few new fans along the way.

A joy to rock
deM atlaS signed to Minneapolis label Rhymesayers in 2013, and plays a brand of melancholic rap that splits the difference between depressed and party. "It's always a joy to rock with homies," said deM atlaS following his performance.

Meet and greet
Ocala, Florida band A Day To Remember opened up the first night of live music at X Games, but they also surprised a few diehard Minnesota fans by doing a meet and greet with them following the show.

Practice makes perfect
A Day To Remember was fresh off of playing Summerfest when they arrived in Minneapolis for X Games, and Europe before that. Safe to say, their steady lineup of shows shined through in their performance.

A night to remember
"Plying the X Games last night was awesome," said A Day To Remember. "Thanks for having us!"

Flume comes to X Games
On Saturday night of X Games, Australian record producer, DJ and musician Flume played to a packed crowd just outside of the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. After playing Quebec the night before, Flume's brand of dance/electronica was well received by the X Games crowd.

Minneapolis lights
The light show that accompanied Flume's atmospheric, beat-driven set was perfectly timed to the music.

Relation through art
The final night of X Games Minneapolis was closed by Minneapolis act Atmosphere. The hip-hop duo started in 1997 and has become a Minneapolis institution in the twenty years since. "People are just looking for something they can relate to," says Atmosphere's Sean Daley. "Something that they can take and apply to themselves. Some of us are lucky enough to become that through our art."

X Games crowds
This is what closing night featuring Atmosphere in Minneapolis looks like from the stage. Yes, their music is as much a part of the city's fabric as Prince and The Replacements.
