X Games Aspen 2019: Zoom Photography Contest
World of X Games Zoom photography contest.
Every month on XGames.com we take 10 of the most remarkable photos from across the action sports universe and feature them in a gallery called "Zoom." For X Games Aspen, we choose six of the best winter-focused images from the past 12 months of Zoom galleries and put them in a head-to-head fan-vote contest.
For a week and a half, fans voted for their favorite image online. When the dust settled, photographer Adam Barker was declared the winner and he was awarded $10,000 and an X Games gold medal for action sports photography.
To learn more about our finalists, check out their bios. To find out more details about the contest itself, click here.

Markus Keller by Matt Georges
"Bosco Gurin is lost in the middle of nowhere at the Swiss/Italian border, where it seems that the time is standing still. This little village full of very old houses, old lifts and farmers feels almost medieval. We got a good fresh meter of snow, which was unfortunately followed with a wind called "Foehn," which resulted in big, crusty layer on top of very good fresh snow. We couldn't even get out onto the slope because we were scared to break our shin bones. So the only thing left to do was to throw backflip over a wooden terrace." -- Matt Georges

Julian Carr by Adam Barker
"Skier Julian Carr is known for dropping massive cliffs with his signature swan-dive front flip. Brighton Resort, perched at the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon in Utah, is known for its exceptionally deep snow and healthy airs. Put the two together on the right day and voila! This is, hands down, one of my favorite ski images that I've ever photographed! Gnarly action, legit composition and light. These don't come along all that often." -- Adam Barker

Knut-Hendrik Lajord by Vegard Aasen
"We've wanted to do a picture of this cabin for a while. We had been driving past it every time we went to our local ski resort. Last month, we were finally able to pull it off. In the photo, Knut-Hendrik Lajord Snitjer is jumping off the roof, while the flash is lighting up the smoke from the grill on the back. It was a really cool, completely unplanned special effect!" -- Vegard Byrkjeland Aasen

Santiago Guzman by Oskar Enander
"After a hot summer with a lot of melting, this ice cave opened up big enough last season to ski through. Getting this shot of Santiago was my first and last time in it. This summer it caved in and is there no more." -- Oskar Enander

The Crew by Dominic Zimmermann
"This image was taken in late April. The whole resort of Laax was closed, but they groomed the park just for us to use for a two-week session. At the end of the last day everybody was slashing the pipe at the same time. It took the riders three tries to get it perfectly synchronized -- especially with the drop in. Twelve people dropping at the same time into the halfpipe? That was pretty amazing to watch." -- Dominic Zimmermann

Johan Nordhag by Daniel Bernstål
"TLC once sang 'Don't go chasing waterfalls,' but that's exactly what I did. I went north to Åre, where Sweden's largest waterfall is located. I called snowboarder Johan Nordhag to see if he was down to throw some handplants, and he was. The rest is history, or at least a nice photo." -- Daniel Bernstål
