Welcome To Winter
Ski and snowboard films are dropping across the country and snow is starting to fly in the high country, it's time to fuel the stoke for Winter with the hottest action from the coldest climates. "It was the beginning of last winter and I was super motivated for the first powder shoot of the season, so I met up with Mario Wanger and Tini Gruber to get some photos in the Zillertal. The wind made it hard to find good snow but in the end we found some places with nice untouched powder." -- Patrick Steiner

Will Hutch, Mt. Baker, Washington
"The backcountry surrounding the Mt. Baker ski area in the North Cascades has limitless terrain for those willing to put the effort in to do a quick skin. One of the most popular areas is the AK type lines that the Shuksan arm provides. This terrain is the reason why I have called Baker home for the last 20 years. This shot of local skier Will Hutch was taken last winter on a day we got a surprise break in a cold powder storm." -- Grant Gunderson

Anna Gasser, Mammoth Mountain, California
"With one of the largest snowfalls in resort history and a season that lasted well in to summer, Anna Gasser enjoyed the fruits of the historic snow year in an early summer kicker session at Mammoth Mountain" -- Dasha Nosova

Banks Gilberti and Rory Bushfield. Pemberton, Canada
"Watching how much fun Rory Bushfield was having destroying every bit of fresh powder covering this frozen lake with his sled inspired Banks Gilberti to team up for a (very) high speed tow around. Getting on Rory's program worked out well, I could hear them howling over the rev of the motor. Finding this bump for Banks to flip out of was just the icing on the cake." -- Tal Roberts

Johan Nordhag, Norway
"We went to Trondheim, Norway to shoot for the upcoming movie Scandalnavians. I had seen this viewpoint on a bridge in the middle of the city that I wanted to do something on. We decided to build a small quarterpipe and the rest is history. Johan Nordhag with an air-to-fakie on his first try. The second try didn't go as smoothly and he ended up in the ice-cold Atlantic water. End of session!" -- Daniel Bernstål

Reed Snyderman, Alta, Utah
"This cliff sits atop of Little Cottonwood Canyon just above the town of Alta. About a month before we took this photo, Reed and I had to add dead trees to the take off so the rock would hold snow. After a couple of snowfalls it was good to go and here is the result. " -- Brent Benson

Austen Sweetin, Mt. Baker, Washington
"Mt Baker always seems to get a solid dose of good snow just before New Years. This past season was no exception. With cold temperatures, fresh snow and relatively clear skies, the early season powder program was in full effect. On December 30, after riding the resort under cloudy skies most of the morning, a partial clearing sent Austen Sweetin and I hiking towards the upper reaches of the resort-accessed backcountry. At the top, we ran into a solid crew of friends sessioning this classic hit under quickly changing weather. We were pretty much done when the afternoon sun caught an incoming layer of fog, making for magic light. I asked Austen to hustle up for one more round and he boosted this frontside 360 into the last pocket of fresh snow." -- Colin Wiseman

David Kantermo, Canada
"Shames Mountain, near Terrace, British Columbia, is Canada's first non-profit ski hill owned and operated by a co-op. Only two lifts and a rope tow serve the rad little hill, but the lifts at Shames function very well as a steep ladder to the vast backcountry. This is my new home ski hill and when my Swedish buddy David Kantermo came to visit last winter, we linked up to document the moves on the mountain. This is actually the very first photo I took with a real camera at Shames and Kantermo looks pretty comfortable coming off that pillow." -- Mattias Fredriksson

Ryan Paul, Canada
"Ryan Paul has always been one of my favorite snowboarders. He always comes up with some insanely creative ideas, and his riding technicality is second to none. This was the first time I had the chance to shoot with RP, on a shoot for Sessions. We rolled up to this spot in Quebec, and all the riders immediately wanted to jam up and over this massive tank. I saw Ryan staring into the inside of the tank for nearly half an hour, when he decided to pick up a shovel and create a way to snowboard inside the full pipe. Some trial and error went into the build, and after borrowing some tires from the adjacent junkyard to build the drop in, we had ourselves a fun feature. The drop in was so tight that the other riders had to strap Ryan in while standing on top of the tires. Within a handful of tries we were walking away with one of my most favorite shots I've taken in a while." -- Mike Yoshida

Johan Jonsson, Switzerland
"It's a fairly quick approach from the back side of the ski resort but, as always, when the sun is setting it gets really stressful trying to catch that magic light. With little time to spare we made it up and just before sunset and got the shot." -- Oskar Enander
