X Games Session: Red Gerard
The Gerard Yard
The X Games crew traveled out to Silverthorne, Colorado, to catch up with Red Gerard at the start of the season and see one of the most unique back yards in the industry.
The Colorado native and Olympic Slopestyle Gold medalist splits his time between competition and filming video parts, including 2019's "Joy" co-starring Ben Ferguson and Sage Kotsenburg, and the behind-the-scenes documentary "Overjoyed" which debuted on World of X Games this past Fall
X Games host Jack Mitrani traveled out to see the famed "Gerard Yard" in person, while Gerard lapped the rails for his X Games Session.
Situated above the Summit County hub of Silverthorne and overlooking the I-70 corridor, with numerous major resorts within a 30 minute drive, Gerard's backyard hosts a variety of features to keep daily rail practice close to home.
Getting the reps
Gerard started on the flat bar, throwing down style lap-after-lap till he'd exhausted his arsenal of tricks.
While some of the rails were custom fabricated for the yard, others like this horse fence were re-purposed from the existing farm.
The homemade rope tow helps Gerard keep the flow going during practice sessions.
The Gerard farm still boasts goats and chickens to keep the family well-fed, not to mention provide a literal captive audience for Gerard's latest exploits in the yard.
Between laps, Gerard and Mitrani had a chance to talk plans for X Games and the 2020 season in general.
X Games bound
While an X Games medal has eluded Gerard to date, he'll be gunning for gold in Aspen and beyond this Winter season.
