Every month on XGames.com we take 10 of the most remarkable photos from across the action sports universe and feature them in a gallery called "Zoom." For X Games Aspen, we choose six of the best winter-focused images from the past 12 months of Zoom galleries and put them in a head-to-head fan-vote contest.

Sven Thorgren, Kläppen, Sweden
"I was hanging out with Sven Thorgren and Anthon Bosch in Sweden. We headed up the mountain late at night where we found this side hit just by the road. The fog rolled in. I decided to go for a classic backlit shot. In order to get the light right I had to put my biggest flash on the porch of the house where the kids lived who had built the side hit. I knocked on their door to ask for permission and I guess they were excited that their biggest snowboard idols were gonna throw some tricks in their front yard because we had a two-hour session and the kids was helped me with my flashes the whole time. On top of that we also got a bangin' photo. It was a perfect end to a grey and rainy day!" -- Daniel Bernstål

Fraser McDougall, Mt. Aspiring NP, New Zealand
"We were on an early-season trip into the mountains of Mt. Aspiring National Park in New Zealand. I've been working with Fraser for a number of years now. In fact, he taught me how to ski. We're both obsessive when it comes to light, so you can only imagine the excitement when we found this zone on the side of a ridge." -- Mark Clinton

Anna Gasser, Mammoth Mountain, California
"With one of the largest snowfalls in resort history and a season that lasted well in to summer, Anna Gasser enjoyed the fruits of the historic snow year in an early summer kicker session at Mammoth Mountain" -- Dasha Nosova

Mikey Rencz, Whistler, Canada
"Shooting early season photos in the Whistler Backcountry can be difficult at times because the sun is always low and most of the good spots don't get light. However, the spots that do get early light can produce beautiful and dramatic photos if you get up early enough. Here is Mikey Rencz while most are still having breakfast." -- Scott Serfas

Taylor Pratt, Salt Lake City, Utah
"I always have been fascinated with surf photos showing action above the water and the completely different world below. After an hour of You Tube University and 20 dollars later, I had myself a water housing. I found a spot along the Big Cottonwood Canyon creek in Utah and here's the result. The only thing that missing is a trout." -- Brent Benson
