Rony Gomes, an X Games competitor since 2011 with three Big Air medals and a bronze in Vert Best Trick from X Games 2022, has helped build the center of the vert skateboarding scene in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Now he’s also help raising up the next generation of Brazilian transition riders: he has helped train, coach, and mentor X Games competitors including Gui Khury, Augusto Akio, and Dora Varella. He hosts the annual Vert Battle event at his ramp in Rio, known as RG Skatepark. Vert Battle 2024 in June, three weeks before X Games Ventura 2024, was the event’s 16th anniversary.
