Leticia Bufoni's Off-Road Trip
X Games is proud to present Leticia Bufoni's Off-Road Trip with Can-Am to cruise through the desert to skate the Lake Dolores Waterpark.
About Leticia's Off-road Trip
It isn't often that you get a DM on Instagram asking if you want to go off-roading to a skate spot. One of the homies at Can-Am hit me up with a pretty cool idea. Leticia Bufoni, the queen of skateboarding, and no stranger to X Games, wanted to get some of the homies together to cruise through the desert to skate the Lake Dolores Waterpark, which just so happens to be the world’s first waterpark.
//
The day started with some of the gnarliest wind I've ever experienced. Maybe that's normal in the desert, but we don't have that on the East Coast. We rolled up to the starting point to a couple of tough looking rigs. Felt like I was in a god damn Halo game.
//
After an initial safety brief, Neil ended with a “don't worry, Leticia is a safe driver”, to which she just grinned and put her helmet on. At this point, I accepted whatever fate was in store for me. Leticia typically races in a two seater Can-Am Maverick X3 and affectionately referred to today's Maverick X3 MAX as “The Bus”, so I took that as it would be a bit chiller of a ride.
//
I couldn't have been more wrong. Leticia hit the burners and took off instantly. Now, admittedly, I'm new to riding in UTVs. I've grown up on dirt bikes and expecting something similar to that. Nope. Leticia had us going 60 miles an hour through sand, over rocks and through water, even racing a train at one point.
//
An hour into this high-speed joyride. We pull up to what looks like an abandoned foundation, covered in Banksy’s childhood doodles. We jumped out and grabbed the boards and took off searching for the waterslide.
//
Not surprisingly we sniffed out the spot quickly, and after some flat ground warm-ups in a quick conversation about lunch, Leticia got right to work.
//
Even in hurricane level wind conditions. This 360 flip was quick work for her
//
Wrapping up the session the crew started to load up the rigs into the trailer and begin the ride home for a much-needed shower. This is one of the most unique skate trips I've ever been on. Never thought I would be hooked on off-roading, but I'm gonna need to talk to X Games about a raise so I can get myself a Can-Am Maverick R.
Thanks dudes. Looking forward to the next one.
