About Moto Shibata
X Games Minneapolis 2017 Skateboard Vert gold medalist Moto Shibata owns 10 total X Games medals between Vert (1 gold, 4 silver, 1 bronze) and Vert Best Trick (4 silver). He’s from Osaka, Japan, where the Simple City Skateshop his father Tetsuyu founded and his family operates has become one of the shaping forces of Japan’s thriving skate scene. He’s best known for his many vert variations of the “impossible,” a trick worthy of its name that involves wrapping the skateboard around the back or front foot: originally invented by flatland freestyle pioneer Rodney Mullen, it’s a trick almost never seen in vert competition from anyone other than Moto. He sponsored and mentored by vert skateboarding legend Christian Hosoi on the Hosoi Skateboards team.
