X Games Salt Lake City 2025 Skateboard Street silver medalist and X Games Osaka 2025 bronze medalist Ibuki Matsumoto is already leading the next wave of Japanese talent in the discipline, earning her first medal at age 13. She finished 4th in both Street and Street Best Trick as a 12-year-old rookie at X Games Ventura 2024. She’s been strong outside of X Games, too, with recent wins on the World Skateboarding Tour and podiums at events including the Rockstar Energy Open and the 2025 World Skate World Championships (held in March 2026). She grew up far from the centers of Japan’s skateboarding scene, in Kumamoto on the island of Kyushu, but grew up skating at Ukiuki Skatepark in Uki City, a surprisingly large skatepark in what she describes as “the countryside.”
