XC Golden State
Northern California has shaped winter sports culture for generations, but that heritage never had a team of its own. Now it does.
XC Golden State is the first California-based winter franchise in the MoonPay X Games League. The XGL was built on the idea that regions define the sport as much as the athletes, and Northern California has earned its place at the center of it.
“The Bay Area and Lake Tahoe have been central to the development of action sports, and it’s essential that the communities of Northern California have their own team to support,” said Bay area entrepreneur and investor Jonathan Turner, who co-owns the team. “We represent those pushing the boundaries and creating sports history.”
This is the sixth club sale completed as the XGL finalizes its founding ownership group ahead of the 2027 Winter Season.
One more region, fully represented.

GM | Johnny Moseley
Jonny Moseley is an Olympic gold medalist, World Cup champion and one of the most influential skiers of his generation. His groundbreaking performance at the 1998 Nagano Olympics helped spark the modern freeskiing movement, and he became the first skier to medal at both the Olympics and X Games. He later helped push the sport forward by advocating for progressive tricks that reshaped mogul skiing competition.
Following his competitive career, Moseley became one of skiing’s most recognizable voices as a television host and commentator while working with leading brands including Palisades Tahoe, Toyota and Peter Glenn. As General Manager of XC Golden State, Moseley brings a unique blend of elite competition experience, business leadership and roots in the Bay Area and Lake Tahoe, the region where his skiing career began.
“Growing up in Northern California, I saw firsthand how the Bay Area and Lake Tahoe helped shape skiing and snowboarding,” said Moseley. “It’s where I learned to ski, where I competed, and where my passion for the sport began. To come back and lead XC Golden State is incredibly meaningful. We have an opportunity to create something that reflects the innovation, creativity and competitive spirit of this region while chasing the first X Games League Winter Championship.”

FAQ
The inaugural XGL Summer season begins in 2026 with 3 stops, followed by the first Winter season in 2027 with 3 stops.
The traditional X Games are iconic, standalone events. XGL builds on that legacy with a league format, allowing athletes to compete for their X Games Clubs across multiple stops each season, earning points toward a championship title.
At each X Games stop (e.g., X Games SLC or X Games Aspen), certain disciplines will be designated as league competitions where athletes on Clubs will compete for points. Athletes will compete for franchise-owned Clubs under a 3-stop season format leading to championship at the last stop of the season.
