After a strong 2025 that featured medals at both XG Osaka and Salt Lake City, Smillie is 7-time X Games Street medalist. He has three rescue dogs and auctioned off the bike he rode in XG Minneapolis 2018 and XG Sydney 2018, with all benefits going to the Humane Society. His grandmother introduced him to his wife, Haley Ginieczki, when his grandma met Haley at a hair salon. The couple got married on May 4, 2022 in a small ceremony. He started riding in 1997 at age 5. His mom was a pro motocross racer (his dad raced, too) and he watched motocross videos and tried to mimic what he saw. He also raced motocross when he was a kid.
