MoonPay X Games League Announces Sale of Golden State Club, Founding Ownership Group Nears Completion
Jonathan Turner-Led Investment Group Acquires Bay Area/Lake Tahoe Winter Team as Sixth MoonPay X Games League Club Sale is Completed
SAN FRANCISCO (August 4, 2026) — X Games has announced the sale of its Bay Area/Lake Tahoe MoonPay X Games League (XGL) Winter Club to an investment group led by Bay Area entrepreneur and investor Jonathan Turner. The Club will compete under the name X Games Club Golden State (“XC Golden State”).
The transaction marks the sixth Club sale completed by the X Games League and brings the league closer to finalizing its inaugural ownership group. Moelis & Co LLC served as the exclusive financial advisor to X Games.
XC Golden State has assembled a coalition of leading Bay Area entrepreneurs, investors, creators, and action sports enthusiasts united by a shared vision of building a championship-caliber club representing Northern California. The XC Golden State investors, led by Jonathan Turner, plans to combine the innovative spirit of the Bay Area with the mountain culture and sporting heritage of Lake Tahoe to create one of the premier teams in winter action sports.

The Bay Area and Lake Tahoe have long served as cornerstones of winter sports culture. X Games will work closely with the Golden State ownership group to build a club that reflects the pride, passion, and competitive spirit of Northern California.

The XGL launches its inaugural Winter Season in 2027, bringing a team-based format to elite skiing and snowboarding. The league will feature the world’s best winter athletes competing on behalf of city- and region-based Clubs for team championships, athlete salaries, expanded benefits, and millions of dollars in prize money. XC Golden State will participate in the inaugural XGL Winter Draft on September 16 in Los Angeles and will make the first selection.
